Dec. 2000: Course Development at Edmondstown

Following an EGM of members of the club regarding changes necessitated by the loss of part of the course to the Southern Cross Motorway, it was decided that renovation would involve the redesign of the entire course, incorporating the new 10th and 11th holes, which are on the 9 acre tract of land recently purchased by the Club.

McEvoy Cooke of Rathsallagh and Powerscourt fame have been engaged to create a new, challenging course to top international USGA standards, and with the sand based greens and improved fairways it should be possible to play all year round. The new course design incorporates the now familiar tee complexes, i.e. a group of three tees (Ladies, Society, and Medal).  Additionally there will be five championship tees which will ensure that as a Championship course, we will be able to host major events.

To minimise disruption, it was decided to complete the renovation work in one year. During this period we will have an 18-hole course to play at all times, and since there will be a varying number of temporary greens in operation throughout, we have reduced the green fee considerably.

A "2 for 1" green fee rate will operate in 2001 while the renovations are ongoing. Details available from club office on 493-1082. Edmondstown has always been very popular with Corporate Outings, Golf Societies, Green Fee Visitors and Guests, who will undoubtedly greatly enjoy the new course.

June 2000: Edmondstown Develops New Lands

Edmondstown Golf Club, currently with a challenging 18 hole golf course, has just commenced developing 2 new holes on a recently acquired tract of 9 acres of land. The development commenced shortly after St. Patrick’s Day.

Whilst retaining an 18 hole course throughout, this new development has come about as a result of the loss of land due to the construction of the Southern Cross Motorway. When the new holes are completed and integrated, this will bring the par of the course up to 70.

The development of the new holes is being carried out by the McEvoy Cooke partnership that developed Rathsallagh and Glen of the Downs and were responsible for the upgrading of Woodbrook. The new holes are being developed to top international standards with the greens being built to USPGA standards, sand based with bent grass. They are typical of the McEvoy concept of the green design affording numerous challenging pin placements as already incorporated in their work last year on the new 9th hole.

The Club is in the process of admitting a number of new members. It is likely that a number of additional memberships will be made available over the next few years.

According to Peter Kutner, Club Captain and a driving force behind the ongoing development of the Club, these new holes represent the next phase of the development and upgrading of the playing facilities at Edmondstown. “It is my ambition to have these holes in play in the latter part of the summer. I am confident that our members, guests and many visitors will be able to enjoy the challenge of these new holes and the continual improvement of our course for many years to come”.
